These ‘Goosebumps’ Covers Have Wild Secrets!
These ‘Goosebumps’ Covers Have Wild Secrets!
As a kid, I always picked my next Goosebumps book based on its eye-catching cover. Did you know the mummy’s tomb cover owes its circular stone design to a Grateful Dead album? And those cobwebs on Let’s Get Invisible were a last-minute addition. Deep Trouble almost looked like a Jaws poster at first.
Tim’s Creative Process
Tim Jacobus, the genius behind these covers, often drew inspiration from real-life models, including his own family for My Hairiest Adventure. Fun fact: He once collaborated with Fabio for a sci-fi book cover! He adores the simplicity of The Barking Ghost, which still delivers a punch. When designing The Haunted Mask II, he crafted a fresh mask instead of recycling the original.

Tim sneakily included Easter eggs, like for his son on the How I Got My Shrunken Head cover. He also hid Converse shoes in How I Learned to Fly. Oh, and the initial draft of The Blob That Ate Everyone looked like a ‘baked potato’ rolling down the street, according to Tim.
Thanks, Tim, for these amazing stories! I’m definitely seeing these covers in a new light now. Want more? Explore Tim’s site for autographed prints and other goodies. Dive into my previous chats with Tim for more tales about classics like The Haunted Mask and Night of the Living Dummy.
