Goosebumps Art Secrets: Tim’s Crazy Cover Details

Back in the day, choosing which Goosebumps book to dive into was all about the cover art. The Curse of the Mummy’s Tomb cover? Its stone circle around the mummy was inspired by a Grateful Dead album. As for Let’s Get Invisible, those cobwebs on the mirror were last-minute additions. Original sketches for Deep Trouble leaned heavily on the Jaws movie poster. For My Hairiest Adventure, Tim often used family as stand-in models.

Hidden Gems and Easter Eggs

Tim once collaborated with Fabio for a sci-fi book cover. He loves how The Barking Ghost’s simplicity makes it powerful. In The Haunted Mask II, crafting a fresh mask instead of repeating the first was a win for Tim. He sneakily included a nod to his son in How I Got My Shrunken Head. Night of the Living Dummy III featured outfits that were a hassle to paint. Another hidden gem? Converse shoes on the How I Learned to Fly cover. And, his first draft of The Blob That Ate Everyone? More like a “baked potato on wheels,” according to Tim.

Thanks for the insights, Tim! These covers will never look the same to me again. For autographed prints and sketches, visit Tim’s official site!
