Goosebumps Covers: Secrets You Didn’t Know!

As a kid, did you ever pick a Goosebumps book purely based on its cover? Those spooky illustrations had a unique charm, thanks to the talented artist Tim Jacobus. For instance, the circular stone design on The Curse of the Mummy’s Tomb was inspired by a Grateful Dead album cover. Funny enough, the cobwebs in Let’s Get Invisible were added after Tim’s final submission!

Tim’s Creative Process

Tim’s original sketches for Deep Trouble were more akin to a Jaws movie poster. He often used family members as models, like in My Hairiest Adventure. He even once teamed up with Fabio for a sci-fi cover! Tim is fond of the straightforward yet impactful design of The Barking Ghost. With The Haunted Mask II, he enjoyed crafting a new mask entirely, avoiding a repeat of the first.

Hidden Easter Eggs

Tim snuck in a personal touch by hiding an Easter egg for his son on How I Got My Shrunken Head. Another surprise awaits in How I Learned to Fly with a pair of Converse shoes. And, amusingly, his initial draft of The Blob That Ate Everyone resembled a “baked potato rolling down the street.” Thanks, Tim, for these delightful insights!
